Tempest is a legacy open SSID.

Users are encouraged to transition to eduroam. Tempest is not firewalled, devices receive public IPv4 addresses, and there is no IPv6 support.

To connect, users must associate to the SSID and browse to any non-HTTPS web site (for example, wifi.maine.edu) , then follow the instructions on the registration page.

iOS 14 and Later

You should disable private Wi-Fi addresses (also called MAC address randomization) before registering.

Go to Settings → Wi-Fi, and tap the blue 'i' icon next to tempest, then turn off "Private Address", then close and reopen the registration page if it was already open.

Android 10 and Later

You should turn off MAC address randomization before registering. This might vary a bit from phone to phone but generally:

Google Pixel: Go to Settings → Network and Internet → Wi-Fi, tap the gear icon next to Tempest, tap Advanced, tap Privacy, then select "Use Device MAC".

Samsung: Go to Settings → Connections → Wi-Fi, tap the gear icon next to Tempest, tap Advanced, under "MAC Address Type", tap "Use Phone/Device MAC".

After changing this setting on any phone, close and reopen the registration page if it was already open.
